Satya has been with Microsoft since 1992. He has helped Microsoft form their cloud based services, which is key to his vision for Microsoft.
He has described Microsoft as having 3 services (Windows, Office, and Azure) and anything else being a feature of a service.
He has been credited for bringing MS SQL, Windows Server and developer tools to Azure, which if you haven’t guessed already, I am a bit of a fan.
Satya has also voiced his opinon on Linux, which might of been the push that Microsoft needed to launch a truely cross platform version of .net (core) and 20% of all Azure servers are already Linux based.
This year there has been a clear push for Microsoft services, they have started to open source major projects (.net), bought nokia and pushed mobile, major advances in their cloud services (Azure) and relased some amazing hardware (namely the Surface Pro 3).
Most of these decisions are obviously would have been put in motion before Satay took the position of CEO, but it is clear that Microsoft since February have really pushed big improvements as a company.
